Samuel Huston "Shy" Thompson, Jr.〔(The University of Texas record: Volume 2 )〕 (November 1, 1875 – February 17, 1966)〔(Presidential Mantle Falls on General Donald Armstrong )〕 was a lawyer and an American football coach. The Princeton University graduate served as head coach of the University of Texas at Austin in 1900 and 1901, as the first head coach in school history to return for a second season. He holds a 14–2–1 record at Texas. He later served as assistant U.S. attorney general under President Woodrow Wilson from 1913 to 1918 and on the Federal Trade Commission from 1919 to 1927. ==Coaching career== Thompson was the seventh head football coach for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and he held that position for two seasons, from 1898 until 1899. His overall coaching record at Lehigh was 5 wins, 15 losses, and 1 tie. As of completion of the 2007 season, this ranks him 17th at Lehigh in terms of total wins and 25th at Lehigh in terms of winning percentage.〔(Lehigh Coaching Records )〕 Highlights of his two seasons included back-to-back victories over rival Rutgers.〔(Lehigh University Sports ) 2009 Football Media Guide〕
